Hi, you need a little patch to compile hal-0.5.7.1 with newer version of
dbus. Download this patch from:

http://sources.gentoo.org/viewcvs.py/gentoo-x86/sys-apps/hal/files/hal-0.5.7.1-dbus-close.patch?view=markup

and apply with:
patch -Np1 -i ../hal-0.5.7.1-dbus-close.patch
