Weird characters in gnumeric help - solved

This is for anybody else who is troubled by the weird characters which
appear in gnumeric help pages. Last year, these displayed as an
accented A, this year (perhaps because I'm now using a newer gecko) they
displayed as squares with four dots (technically, the dots are the
character code, but way too small to read). Anyway...

It turns out that these are some form of whitespace, probably what is
referred to as 'spacing modifier letters'. The required glyph(s)
is/are present in dejavu-ttf-2.4 from
http://dejavu.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
