I have the following in my .Xdefaults file in my home directory. Modify as
you like per the xterm man page.

xterm*Background:     black
xterm*Foreground:     white
xterm*font:           8x13bold
xterm*Geometry:       80x40
xterm*ScrollBar:      true
xterm*CursorBlink:    true
xterm*RightScrollBar: true
xterm*PointerColor:   yellow
xterm*SaveLines:      8192
