I did not run a 2.4-kernel in a while but here are my findings
for unixbench-4.1: (2.4.21 vs. 2.5.75-nptl, both basic systems
optimized with "-Os -march=athlon-mp" where appropriate)

                                     2.5.75-nptl 2.4.21
Dhrystone 2 using register variables    369.1     371.5
Double-Precision Whetstone              176.0     177.0
Execl Throughput                        603.8     747.5
File Copy 1024 bufsize 2000 maxblocks   334.4     299.6
File Copy 256 bufsize 500 maxblocks     387.3     327.9
File Copy 4096 bufsize 8000 maxblocks   301.5     279.6
Pipe Throughput                         654.5     725.3
Pipe-based Context Switching            528.6     460.3
Process Creation                        769.5     444.6
Shell Scripts (8 concurrent)           1101.0    1188.0
System Call Overhead                    842.5     524.2
                                     ========  ========
     FINAL SCORE                        488.5     441.7

So "my" Process Creation is about 1.73.
