Well, I didn't do what I said I would,  here is a kernel 2.6.2 to 2.4.24
camparison run with /usr/bin/time.
 >1 is better

 .993    Dhrystone 2 using register variables
 .989    Double-Precision Whetstone
 .678    Execl Throughput
#note: these are reiserfs file times
1.635    File Copy 1024 bufsize 2000 maxblocks
1.867    File Copy 256 bufsize 500 maxblocks
1.255    File Copy 4096 bufsize 8000 maxblocks
1.062    Pipe Throughput
 .756    Pipe-based Context Switching
 .706    Process Creation
1.203    Shell Scripts (8 concurrent)
1.061    System Call Overhead

suprisingly poor processes?
