how to start X server when the computer starts

Hi
It depends on what you want to start up. Assuming it's the graphical login XDM (or KDM for that matter) you have to edit the /etc/inittab file and add something like:

x:5:respawn:/usr/X11R6/bin/xdm -nodaemon

then you have to make sure your default runlevel is 5 (this makes sure that your init goes all the way up to runlevel 5.)

id:5:initdefault:

You can find it in the BLFS book under Chap 26, XFree Components
