redhat initscript and ps output format

In redhat 9.0 and some previous releases, and possibly fedora,
the 'ps' output formats the daemons started by init by wrapping them in
brackets
and only displaying the process, it hides all the arguments passed to the
daemon.

redhat:
mysql 28201 0.0 4.7 318468 42856 ? S Dec15 0:00 [mysqld]
apache 32125 0.0 0.9 13096 8320 ? S 08:15 0:00 [httpd]
named 17998 0.3 0.3 4364 3292 ? Ss 10:04 0:04 [named]

lfs:
named 164 0.4 8.9 46960 46016 ? Ss Nov06 237:42 named -u
named
mysql 22783 0.0 4.2 318656 43484 pts/0 S Dec15 0:00
/usr/sbin/mysqld -u mysql

I am trying to duplicate this with my LFS install, but can't seem to figure
out how
the folks at redhat got this to work.

I have looked over the redhat /etc/rc.d/init.d/functions but couldn't locate
anything.
I also installed installed a new procps-3.2.4 on the redhat box and is still
displays the above formatting.

Anybody have a clue?

Thanks,
Duane Cox
