It should probably be in /usr/bin anyway.
Is /usr/local/bin in your path?  (type set, or try to run grep from a 
different directory.)
You could always make a symbolic link /usr/bin to /usr/local/bin, too:
cd /usr/bin
ln -s /usr/local/bin/grep grep

Probably, though, you should redo your LFS, since other applications might be 
in the wrong directories as well.
