Perhaps somehow the login programs wants that file there (updated util-linux 
perhaps? or updated shadow password? I'm still building a new lfs system with 
the updated shadow utils and util-linux to test this). Create it like this:
#begin /etc/securetty
tty1
tty2
tty3
tty4
tty5
tty6
#end /etc/securetty

See if this works
