 OK - need to add the postgres user, which is an aggravation on desktop
 machines where only the client is going to be used, but I can live with
 that. Except, it doesn't work for me (using su instead of sudo,
 i.e. make ; su ; chown -R ... ; su postgres -c 'make check'
