Right now, BLFS includes Pine plus a big patch that is questionable from a
legal viewpoint (because distribution of modified Pine versions is
prohibited), but required in order to have a functional Pine in UTF-8
based system. Alpine (http://www.washington.edu/alpine/) is a fork of the
last Pine version that didn't have the offending clause in the license,
and incorporates this patch and many others. I recommend switching. The
page (http://www.suse.de/~bk/pine/FAQ.html) where we got this patch from
now says it is deprecated in favor of Alpine.
