Don't know if it was backported to KDE_3_3_BRANCH, but at least in kde-3.3.0 
sources I have, I don't have this. I can try this patch at our evening and if 
it will fix the problem, then I think it should be added to the BOOK, because 
this fix will be only available in CVS or kde-3.3.1
I will try it and will write to this list tomorrow.
