It seems to be I think.  I installed samba on a server I LFS'd recently
and samba seemed to be ok.. Not sure if I'm using SSL on it though.

Agreed.  I lurk on alfs-discuss (and in fact all the lfs lists) and it's
good to know what's going on overall.
