This gcc-2.95.3 issue turned out to be a pain... apparently, gcc-2.95.3 
supports C99 structure/union initializer syntax, and the documentation 
even says that, but it won't actually allow you to skip structure 
elements. gcc-3.x works fine with that.

The Linux kernel appears to work with gcc-2.95.3 and uses C99 structure 
initializers, so I'm going to do some more research and find out what's 
going wrong. In the meantime, I have checked in changes to CVS so that 
nALFS will build with gcc-2.95.3 again.
