I see the loop, but I don't know the cause.

Let us review.
(1) You had the error "svn: This client is too old ..."
I have svn, version 1.3.1 which works for me.
How did you solve?

(2) You had the error "parser error : Document is empty .."
My suggestion to "De-select xorg7-data" was a solution for that.
You used some other solution.
I am suspecting that you solution led to the "loop"
What was your solution?

(3) Here is what I do to start over:
cd $HOME
rm -rf jhalfs-svn
svn co svn://linuxfromscratch.org/ALFS/jhalfs/trunk jhalfs-svn
cd jhalfs-svn
make
| | Use BOOK (Beyond Linux From Scratch) --->
| |    Release (SVN)  --->
| |($HOME/blfs_root) Directory root (NEW)
| |(blfs-xml) BLFS sources directory (NEW)
| |(/var/lib/jhalfs/BLFS) Installed packages database directory (NEW)
| |

When I see " Generating packages database file ..."
press CTRL-C

I see
  "INTERRUPT trapped" and "Error 2"
but I don't care.
I will do all the rest in $HOME/blfs_root

cd $HOME
cd blfs_root
make
| |[*] XORG7 7.5
| |      XORG7 components  --->

| | [*] x-config (NEW)
| | [*] x-setup (NEW)
| | [*] rman 3.2 (NEW)

| | [*] xorg7-server 1.7.1 (NEW)
| | [*] xorg7-font 7.5 (NEW)
| | [ ] xorg7-data
| | [*] xorg7-app 7.5 (NEW)
| | [*] mesalib 7.6 (NEW)
See, I deselect xorg7-data
